Come as You Are

There is an old hymn we sometimes sing in our church. It’s used sometimes for alter calls. “Just as I am without one plea, because your blood was shed for me. And that thou biddeth me come to thee oh Lamb of God I come, I come.”

Lets look closely at the text of this beautiful hymn.

Just as I am, without one plea.

There is not one thing we can bring to God that would appease him as payment for our sin and shame. No need to try and clean up before we answer the knock. For By grace (divine favor) are you saved through faith. And that not of yourselves it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). So though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool (Isaiah 1:18).

So when we come we come with all our baggage and by faith we lay it all down at his feet. Lord Jesus I come as I am broken wounded and sad believing there has to be more to life than this.

And because he is drawing you to come to him, Because his blood paid the supreme price for all your sins, you can rest assured that he will not turn you away. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me and he that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37).

The writer realized he needed God’s help. He reached out in faith and proclaimed O LAMB OF GOD I COME I COME. If you are reading this and have not received this invitation, then dear friend, if you have tried everything else and it didn’t work, why not try Jesus?

And for those friends that were once serving God, but the enemy of your soul tricked you, just listen – Jesus is still calling you to come back home.
